news:
Tomasz Adamek is fresh off his dominating performance against Andrew Golota in the Polish Fight of the Century. This was the cruiserweight champions first fight at heavyweight. He intends to stay there and ultimately has his eyes set on the heavyweight title. He is now planning to take his next step towards that goal when he faces Jason Estrada on February 6 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Both pugilists were in attendance for a press conference today at the Liberty House in Jersey City.

I honestly think that Tomasz made a big, big, big mistake, quipped a very confident Jason Estrada. Going off a Golota win, Golota in his day was one of the best heavyweights, in my opinion. He had decent hand speed, great power, very strong guy, but that is not the same Golota from 96. To me, thats not really a fight that I would take as a justification to fight me. Estrada continued, I hear stories about him doing what no one else could doput me on my ass? Its not going to happen. In 300 and something amateur bouts, its never happened. In the gym in sparring, its never happened. In the street, its never happened. When I sleep, my bed is vertical. I stand up sleeping, so its not going to happen..

The Super Bowl weekend fight is almost guaranteed to be a cracker, both fighters know this is there big chance to get back on top with the winner becoming the mandatory challenger to IBF champion Tavoris Cloud, a fight likely to happen in May. Yusaf Mack has been in camp since the 6th November after he was originally scheduled to fight Karo Murat in late December.

On speaking to Mack regarding all the changes of fight times and opponents we asked has this effected his preparation for the biggest fight of his life, his response "Hell no, I am in the best shape of my life, I have worked really hard and cut no corners and I am ready to light up the light heavyweight division. I was initially upset when the Murat fight was cancelled but that led to the Johnson fight which is a far better fight for me, if I had beaten Murat he is an untested fighter and I would not have been given the deserved credit, now I have Johnson he has won a world title a few times, he has been involved in a crazy number of title fights, he has been in with the best and beaten the best. When I beat Glen Johnson people cannot deny I am one of the top guys out there. In regards to the time I have been in camp, my trainer John Tandy has controlled my training superbly and only now I am ready t

You can watch watch the stream live and for free at Saturday, Jan 30nd, 2010! Watch the stream here. The stream will be open early enough before the fight starts! Here is the link for the stream in HQ (register for free): Sebastian Sylvester - Billy Lyell

news:
As fight fans may know, 25-year-old middleweight Billy Lyell of Youngstown received news last week of how he had been offered a shot at IBF 160-pound ruler Sebastian Sylvester of Germany. Snapping up the surprise opportunity in a heartbeat, the 21-7(4) contender who rose to fame with his April 2009 win over John Duddy, is confident he can score another notable upset this coming Saturday.

Lyell himself has already left for Germany, alongside his trainer Jack Loew, but his manager, Patrick Nelson, who flies out tonight, very kindly gave the following answers to my questions about the upcoming fight.

James Slater: Thanks so much for your time, Patrick. We understand Billy had already been in training for another fight when the big opportunity against Sylvester came about?

Patrick Nelson: That's correct. I tell you, since he graduated college last year, Billy Lyell has devoted all of his time to boxing. He's stayed very active, he's a gym rat and he's in great shape now. He was in shape and on weight for an eight-round fight this Friday, against Bruce Rumbolz, 22-19, and he is ready for this fight with Sylvester; believe me..

J.S: This is obviously a dream fight, which came right out of the blue. Billy must be very excited?

P.N: He is very excited, and also very happy to have been given this opportunity. But at the same time, we had thought we'd one day have a good chance of fighting Sylvester. We thought it would be for an intercontinental title, not a world title, but then Arthur Abraham moved up in weight to fight in the Super-Six, which vacated the IBF world title. So it was a fight that we had talked about. Billy even went as far as top get a passport in anticipation of one day going to Germany to fight Sebastian Sylvester. So it's come a lot quicker than we thought and not as we'd planned it, and it's a really fortunate opportunity.

news:
Robert Helenius (10-0, 6 KOs) is facing the biggest challenge of his life when he takes on former WBO Heavyweight Champion Lamon Brewster in Neubrandenburg, Germany on January 30. Coming off a spectacular third-round TKO victory over Taras Bidenko, the Nordic Nightmare is looking for the 11th victory in as many bouts. I am excited to fight one of the biggest names in boxing at this early stage of my career, Helenius said. I have big plans and in order to accomplish them, I have to keep progressing. A victory over Brewster would be a giant stride into the right direction.

Helenius, who finished second at the 2006 European Amateur Championships, looked impressive in his last fights. I am in great shape, the Scandinavian heavyweight hopeful said. I am confident of success, even though I have never been in the ring with a star like Brewster. But I have a bigger reach than him and will keep him at bay with my jab..

Brewster (35-5, 30 KOs) joined Team Sauerland in March 2009, comfortably defeating Michael Sprott in his first fight. His ambitious plan to fight for a world title again suffered a blow when Gbenga Oloukun clinched a points victory in Halle just five months later. Perhaps he underestimated his opponent, Helenius said. However, I am sure he will not take me lightly. But I will be prepared for him. I am sure I will win the biggest fight of my life.

The main fight of the night will be the clash between IBF Middleweight Champion Sebastian Sylvester and challenger Pablo Navascues.

A professional since 2002, 31-year-old Gabriel Campillo (19-2, 6 KOs) really hit his stride 2009. Formerly the holder of the Spanish light heavyweight title, Campillo kicked off last year by decisioning Lolenga Mock for the European Union belt. Just three months later on June 20, he defeated Hugo Garay in his home country of Argentina for the WBA Light Heavyweight World Title before finishing off 2009 with his win over the previously unbeaten Shumenov. On January 29, he looks for a repeat against Shumenov in his United States debut.

news:
There are a number of exciting and unbeaten Cuban fighters who are currently making names for themselves as well as closing in on world titles. Having defected from their homeland so as to make it at pro level, talented operators like super-bantamweight Guillermo Rigondeaux (considered by good judges to be THE best prospect in world boxing today), heavyweight Odlanier Soils and light-middleweight Erislandy Lara have brought much interest to the sport..

26-year-old southpaw Lara, currently 9-0(5) makes a pretty big jump up in class in his next outing, set for January 29th in Las Vegas. Set to meet 39-year-old Grady Brewer of "Contender" fame, Lara will be having his potentially most difficult fight yet in the paid ranks. At 26-11(15), "Bad Boy" Brewer is as experienced as can be and he is has also had good success recently - having won his last eight fights. If Lara can get himself an impressive win, especially a stoppage win, he will have certainly achieved something. Of course, Brewer, who saw a fight with Winky Wright fall through late last year, will have other ideas.

Lara had a busy year in 2009, winning seven bouts. Stepping up to the ten round distance in his last fight, back on December 12th, the 5'9" lefty won a UD over Mexico's durable Luciano Perez. The Cuban would-be star had no problems at all in going ten rounds for the first time. A gifted boxer who can also bang when he wants to, Lara had previously only been as far as six rounds at pro level. Can Brewer extend him again?

Brewer, should he read this article, will surely be thinking not only can he extend Lara, he can also beat him. And the fight is a good match-up. Not all "sure thing" prospects make it, and it's still early days as far as Lara is concerned - even though he has looked very good thus far. Brewer can punch some himself, and he has shown pretty good form just lately. Returning to the ring in late 2008 after a break in 2007, the 39-year-old went on to out-point the useful Cornelius Bundradge (next up for IBF 154-pound champ Cory Spinks), and in his last two outings, Brewer won by quick KO.

news:
"It might be your city, but don't be mistaken this is my coming out party" - Those were the harsh words of wisdom Curtis "Showtime" Stevens had for Jesse Brinkley when asked about their upcoming showdown on Friday January 29th at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, NV. The bout, scheduled for 12 rounds, is IBF Super Middleweight Eliminator for the #2 ranking (Stevens is currently rated #10, while Brinkley is rated #6) and will be shown live as the main event on that evening's ESPN "Friday Night Fights" telecast..

The 24-year-old Stevens (21-2, 15KO) is currently riding a four bout streak since joining Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing stable of promoted fighters, including a career best victory in his last bout when he scored a third round TKO over previously unbeaten Piotr Wilczewski (22-0) in July of 2009. Coincidently, the fight against Wilczewski, which was on the undercard of fellow Polish native Tomaz Adamek defending his cruiserweight championship, also saw Stevens; as he will do against the Nevada native Brinkley, enter into very hostile territory.

"I feed off the crowd so the more hostile the environment, the worse off it will be for him," stated Stevens. "As I already told Jesse and all his fans when I went to first announce the fight in Reno, he hasn't ever been in the ring with someone like me. To be honest, when I first heard about the fight I really couldn't believe he accepted it. If he thinks he is going to use me as his stepping stone to bigger things in the super middleweight division, then he is in for a rude awakening."

And according to that awakening Stevens refers to, it will take place on National T.V., center ring, in front of all his adoring hometown fans.

"He will realize he made a mistake when he wakes up on his stool or back in his dressing room because I promise you I am going to knock him out cold. I'm going to catch him and when I do he is going to go to sleep. 2010 is going to be my year. I'm calling out all champions and contenders, you better be ready, because this is my time."

news:
On January 27th, 2010 current WBC USA Heavyweight Champion and world ranked #11 heavyweight boxer Derric "El Leon" Rossy (22-2, 12 KOs) will defend his belt against Alexis Mejias (10-2, 4 KOs). It would be hard not to shine in their clothing. Afterall, Cavi is a product of great taste."
